Upholstery by Capa

Last Thursday I had the opportunity to help upholster Chairs, Ottomans, and other small furnishings with our in house upholsterer, Ed Attwood. Ed is a United States Military Veteran who served in Panama during the Vietnam War. After the war he found himself returning to High Point and starting his own furniture company. Ed sold his furniture on both National and International levels and also worked with local special needs programs for children and elders in need, creating furniture for them when they could not afford to purchase it. Although he has retired from the Furniture industry, he can still be found telling stories and reupholstering furniture here at Capa. Last Thursday Ed was able to help us reupholster some Turkish Pile Rugs onto Ottomans and helped upholster multiple french Petit Point and Aubusson Weaves onto various furnishings. This was influenced by a recent style that popped up in Paris this Fall. In paris showrooms burlap and similar fabrics were inlaid into small dressers, tables, and other furnishings. Here at Capa we have done the same, untraditional furniture fabrics that were only seen on the floor or for industrial use are now being used for traditional furniture upholstery. This aids to the "Industrial Aesthetic" that has been sweeping the design world for the past few years. Check out some of Ed's reupholstered pieces here on the blog, or come stop by Capa to see all our new pieces, Including Burlap inlaid Furniture-Get it while it's Hot!

Above, Ed is working on covering stools with fine handmade Petit Point textiles from France. These stools range from $150-$400 depending on the textile and fitted furnishing.

This black Petit Point pattern was done by Ed and is available for $179.00 in our 319 N Main Location. The above photos show the steps taken to upholster this piece. First the material is cut and squared to ensure that it matches the stools footprint. Then it is tucked in and stapled for a premium fit, trimmed, and then laid with finishing touches. Ed a master upholsterer can upholster a stool like this in around 30 min. That is much faster than the Turkish Pile Rugs take. The thicker fabric requires every seam to be hammered and pressed to ensure a proper fit.

Want to have the hottest styles in your home or store? Then check out these gorgeous Arm Chairs with Tooled Burlap upholstery and Ikat pillows. We all know the Ikat is in right now, with pillows going off the shelves faster than we can stuff them (literally) so pair them with the hottest upholstery style from Paris and wow everyone who sees them. The chairs are $405 and the pillows start at $25 with various styles and sizes.

Find more Burlap Furnishings at Capa, like these. The lovely table on the right has been inlayed with burlap while maintaining it's original teak accents. Chair is priced at $284 and the Table is $335

This is a great example of Our Turkish Pile Rug upholstered pieces. Come to our 319 N Main Location to see various sizes, colors, and patterns. Every Piece features a handmade Turkish Pile Rug and is truly one of a kind.

Window Displays

This fall, I have been given the opportunity to help design the window spaces at Capa Imports in Downtown High Point. With Furniture Market just around the corner, it's crunch time to get organized and create windows that will entice all who see them. Thousands of people from around the world will be flocking to this small southern town in just a few weeks, follow us as we design our windows and hopefully discover how windows can change the game in furniture retail.

Parakeet, Our popping green shade is featured in our 319 N Main window space. The space also features a beautiful parakeet settee, table, and accessories in contrast to various white pieces and accessories.
